Degoumopis Picnic Circa 1897

Home |  USA  | deGrasse | Suisse |  Bloch   | Abraham  |   About  |

I'm Denise deGoumois (a/k/a “AuntNiNi”), a native New Yorker. My father was born in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland but lived most of his life in Beechhurst / Whitestone (Queens), New York.

If our information is correct and the above photograph captured a family picnic to celebrate Netty's confirmation, this photograph would be circa 1897 — before the last three children of Henri-Victor Degoumois (1856-1918) were born. Thus the six children in the photograph would have been (left to right): baby Jeanne, Netty holding Lydia's hand, infant Marc (my Pa-Pa) in back, Samuel and Jean-Victor.

Henri-Victor's first wife, Antoinette Kundert (1857-1892), was the mother of Netty, Samuel and Lydia. When Antoinette died, he married Eva Mérillat (1867-1923), who was the mother of Jean-Victor, Jeanne, Marc, Henriette, Ruth and Esther. We assume the adults would have included members of the Kundert and Merillat families. If anyone can identify the adutls, please let us know. Shamefully, "Je ne parle pas Français."

A concept for this new deGoumois USA site has not yet been developed. We vaguely consider it being a repository of deGoumois, deGrasse, Bloch, Abraham, et al. family photographs.
